Authors of the Month
Every month in Beech class we focus on books by a different author. The aim is that they can recall these authors and some of their books that they have written when asked. This will hopefully instil a love of reading for the future.
This terms authors are:
Julia Donaldson and Eric Carle
ENGLISH
We will begin by looking at what makes a good sentence. By focussing on each element we will emphasise how important each part is.
We will then move onto using books as a prompt to write for a purpose.
We will describe the beautiful pictures in this book using labels and then moving onto simple sentences using more ambitious vocabulary.
We are continuing to use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds in Year One.
Phonics continues to be taught daily in Beech class. This term we will be consolidating all Phase 3/4 phonemes that we have learnt already. Then we will move onto Phase 5. Children who still need support with Phases 3 and 4 will get daily input to make sure that nobody gets left behind.
Every Friday you will receive a revision sheet which goes over the weeks sounds. It would be of great benefit to go over these sheets to make sure all sounds are fully understood.

We will continue to access e-books on the Collins site/app. The new book that the children will have been reading during their reading sessions will be put into your online library on a Wednesday. When they read it to you, they should be reading it fluently and showcasing their skills of decoding, prosody and comprehension.
We will also visit the library on Friday and bring a book to share with you and the family. This is a book that is for sharing together to encourage real pleasure for reading.
We will be covering all Autumn term content using the White Rose education programme, but also consolidating past skills too.
